Gwynns Fall Trail Events Coming this Summer and Fall

Care for baby trees
Help us care for our newly planted trees on the Gwynns Falls
Trail by keeping invasive vines in check. No experience
necessary. Parks & People will provide all of the
training and tools. This is hands-on job that is perfect
for anyone who loves being outdoors. The need for
invasive removal is constant, so contact us at

to schedule a day that works for you. Groups welcomed.

Thursday Gentle Walk and Custom Tours
Every THURSDAY (except bad weather days) from 9 to 10am,
join a guided walk of Gwynns Falls Trail starting at
Trailhead #2, Leakin Park at Winans Meadow (4500
North Franklintown Road, 21229) led by members of
the Friends of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park. Arrange for
your group to have a custom tailored guided tour

Friday Open Row in Middle Branch Park
Every FRIDAY, 6pm to 8pm through September,
located at Middle Branch Park (3301 Waterview Ave.,
21230) just south of the Hanover Street Bridge.
The Recreation and Parks Department has 10 canoes and
kayaks available, so please RSVP early to reserve your
spot in a boat. We will provide everything for
paddling the Middle Branch for pleasure.

Saturday Canoe and Scoop in Middle Branch Park
Every SATURDAY with times vary seasonally through October,
at Middle Branch Park (3301 Waterview Ave. 21230) located
just south and west of the Hanover Street Bridge (Route 2).
The Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks
provides certified staff and volunteers and equipment
for paddling and picking up trash that rain water storm
drains flush to the shore line of Middle Branch Park.
This is a great activity for groups and service
projects with up to 20 participants. It is best to allow
3 hours for this activity. Partners include Blue Water
Baltimore and Parks & People Foundation. For more

Second Sunday of the Month

Second Sunday of the Month - Family Fun Day
(until November)
Come to Leakin Park on the second SUNDAY of the month
from 11am to 3:30pm for Family Fund Day parking at
Eagle Drive at 4921 Windsor Mill Road, 21207 and bring
a picnic lunch and enjoy guided trail and historic
tours, visit nearby Carrie Murray Nature Center,
kid pony rides ($5) and free miniature train rides.
Event is supported by Friends of Gwynns Falls/Leakin
Park and free train rides are made possible by the
Chesapeake and Allegheny Steam Preservation Society
(www.calslivesteam.org).

|
Outward Bound Trail Challenge and Village Celebration
September 13, 8am to 2pm, The Baltimore Chesapeake Bay
Outward Bound School is presenting a "Trail Challenge
and Village Celebration" event on a 3.3 mile (5k)
circular course allowing participants to race on dirt
and asphalt trails, including part of the Gwynns
Falls Trail, up and down hills, across streams and
though beautiful Leakin Park woodland scenery. Natural
challenges are found throughout the course providing
a diverse and exciting race experience unlike any
other in Baltimore. Along the course runners will
see a "Nature Art" exhibit. All levels of runners
are welcome and groups can run together. Following
the race enjoy live music and entertainment as well
as interactive games, kids run, climbing wall, and

Youth Advocacy Workshop - Growing Stronger Leaders for the
Chesapeake Bay
We invite you to take part in an advocacy workshop and
skills training hosted by the National Parks
Conservation Association, Parks & People Foundation,
Environment Maryland, and the National Aquarium to
discuss and learn about issues affecting Baltimore and
the Chesapeake Bay as well as how you can make a
positive change in our community.
Participants will hear from experts on issues facing
Baltimore and the Chesapeake Bay, including water quality,
new sustainable green space and parks, and legislation
that seeks to provide cleaner water for all. Training
will be provided for advocacy skills including: designing
a campaign, crafting an effective message, building
allies, and impacting decision makers.
This training is free and lunch is provided. Space is

Middle Branch Waterfront Festival & Regatta
September 20, 8am to 5pm, Rowing Club Reach High
Program will present the 3rd annual waterfront
festival including 6k rowing races (8am-12pm),
500m canoe/kayak race(12:30pm-3pm), open canoeing
and kayaking (3-5pm), food, music, arts & crafts,
eco-tours (all day). Other participating organizations
include: Baltimore City Recreation and Parks,
Parks & People Foundation, Waterfront Partnership,
Blue Water Baltimore, National Aquarium, Healthy
